Gynaecological cytology
Our range of investigations includes:
- conventional method (slide-based smears)
- thin-film method in liquid medium (ThinPrep)
In accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss Society for Gynaecology, we work within the confines of the international Bethesda system for diagnostics purposes ((3rd edition, 2014)).
Cells can be stored in the fixation fluid for several months. The ThinPrep method is preferable to conventional PAP smears, as additional tests can be performed on the remaining material. Repeat prescriptions are possible within 1 month.
Additional investigations with ThinPrep in collaboration with our Molecular Diagnostics department using PCR:
- human papillomaviruses (HPV) (see preanalytics)
- Chlamydia
- Gonococci
