Non-gynaecological cytology (exfoliative cytology)
Exfoliative cytology covers all organ parts that can be accessed for cytological investigation purposes by means of smears, aspiration or the excretion of fluid:
- Sputum
- Bronchial secretions, bronchial lavages, BAL
- Smears from skin and mucosal surfaces
- Aspirated fluids (pleura, ascites, joints)
- Urine
- Irrigation fluids from the bladder/urinary tract
- Mammary secretions
- CSF
