Neuropathology
The diagnosis of diseases (tumours and other lesions) of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord, including the respective surrounding structures such as bone and soft tissue) is achieved by using state-of-the-art histomorphology and molecular pathology investigation methods.
The range of diagnostics includes the following:
- Intraoperative rapid sections
- Prompt despatch of fresh tissue for NanoDx rapid tests to an external institute
- Histology and immunohistochemistry investigations on fixed neurosurgical tissue samples (in buffered 4% formalin)
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS) for brain tumour gene panel analysis
- MGMT promoter and enhancer methylation
- Timely despatch, for a methodology involving methylation EPIC array-based molecular pathology, to an external institute that analyses over 850,000 DNA methylation sites and significantly improves diagnostic mapping of brain tumours using a computer-based algorithmic process.
- Clonality analyses for CNS lymphomas
- Tumour-specific immunohistochemistry, ISH and NGS panels for CNS metastases
- Cytological investigations, e.g. CSF
